AI story writer
Describe a story idea and this free AI story writer turns it into a complete short story, usually in under a minute. No account, no email, and nothing you type is saved.
How to get a better story
The story writer can only be as specific as your idea. "A story about a dragon" gets the most average dragon story there is. A few details in your brief change everything:
- Someone with a want. Not "a knight" but "a knight who wants to retire before the next war".
- A specific place and time. "A laundromat in Duluth in January" does more work than "a city".
- The thing that goes wrong. The discovery, the arrival, the lie that comes out. That is what the story is about.
- An ending, if you have one in mind. "It ends with her keeping the secret" gives the story somewhere to go.
Then use the settings. Tone changes more than you would think: the same idea reads very differently as eerie, cozy or funny. First person feels closer and more confessional; third person gives you more room.
If a story is close but not right, press Write another version. Each version is written fresh, so the same brief gives you different characters, turns and endings.
What it does well, and what it doesn't
An honest guide, so you know what to expect.
Good at
Complete short stories with a beginning, a turn and an ending. Bedtime stories, writing practice, party games, story ideas to argue with, and openings to take somewhere yourself.
Not built for
Novels, series or anything that has to remember last week's chapter. Every story starts from scratch, and nothing is saved between stories.
Will sometimes
Reach for a familiar phrase, get a small detail wrong, or end a little too neatly. Read the story before you share it, and change whatever you like.
Won't write
Explicit sexual content, anything sexual involving minors, graphic gore, hate, or stories about real private people. A safety check screens each request, and the story writer will steer to a nearby idea instead.
What happens to what you type
Your brief and settings go to an AI model running on Cloudflare Workers AI, which writes the story and streams it back to your browser. We do not store your brief or the story, and we do not use them to train anything. To keep the tool free and stop abuse, we keep a count of requests per network address for one day, stored as a one-way code rather than the address itself.
The stories are written by open models: Moonshot AI's Kimi K2.6, or Google's Gemma 4 when the story writer is busy. You can use the stories however you like.
Writing a story of your own?
This tool writes a story for you. If you would rather write your own, with an AI that helps only when you ask, that is what we build at Feldar. You plan your book as scenes, keep your characters and places beside the page, and any AI suggestion arrives in blue and stays only if you accept it.
Questions
Is this AI story writer really free?
Yes. There is no account, no trial and no payment. To keep it free for everyone, each person can write up to 10 stories a day, and the service has an overall daily limit.
How long are the stories?
Choose short (about 500 words, a two-minute read) or longer (about 1,000 words). For anything longer than that, a writing app with story memory works better than a one-shot generator.
Can I use the stories I make?
Yes, use them however you like. If you publish a story, read it carefully first, and check the rules of wherever you publish: Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing, for example, asks you to disclose AI-generated text.
Which AI writes the stories?
Open models running on Cloudflare Workers AI: Moonshot AI's Kimi K2.6, or Google's Gemma 4 when the story writer is busy. Requests are screened by Meta's Llama Guard 3 safety model first.
Is my story saved anywhere?
No. The story is streamed to your browser and not stored by us. Copy it before you leave the page if you want to keep it.
Why did it refuse my idea?
The story writer keeps stories suitable for a general audience. Ideas involving explicit sex, minors in sexual situations, graphic violence, hate or real private people are declined or steered to a nearby theme.
Can it write a whole book?
No. It writes one short story at a time and remembers nothing between stories. To write a novel, you need a place to plan scenes and keep track of characters, which is what writing apps like Feldar are for.
